Robert Orr is a national award-winning architect and planner and one of the founders of New Urbanism which aims to create affordable, sustainable, mixed-use, walkable, mixed-income, and prosperous communities. His collaboration with Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk at the first such community, Seaside Florida, in 1982 was honored by Time magazine as “…the most astonishing design achievement of its era and one might hope the most influential.” Satellite offices in Santa Barbara and Sarasota cover West Coast and Southeastern US clients, respectively. Robert’s firm furnished 4000 hours of mostly volunteer architectural and planning services to storm-ravaged Gulf Coast Waveland, Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina. A practitioner, professor, lecturer, and writer, Robert lives and partners with his landscape architect wife, Carol Orr, and four children in New Haven, Connecticut.
